Day 347, 13th August: Esther, Revelation and Psalms

He is Worthy
By Katie Jarman, Soul Survivor:Called to Lead

Todays Readings Are:
Esther 6:1-8:17
Revelation 4:1-11
Psalm 142:1-7

Its easy to put worship in a box. We often find ourselves assuming that worship is just a part of the day, like when we’re singing at Church and we can forget it actually involves our whole lives.

As we look at today’s passage in Esther we see a picture of a righteous man, Mordecai, who honours the King. Even when others tried to attack, Mordecai protected the King even though it went unnoticed and unrewarded for a long time. It can be so difficult to stand up for good in our day to day lives. It can be hard to feel like the only one not getting drunk at a party, the only one not sleeping with our boyfriend/ girlfriend or the only one desperate to live with honesty and integrity. Who sees anyway? What difference does it make? Well Our King sees, just as the King found out about Mordecai, our King Jesus sees straight away our lives and hearts. Its through these things, the little things, that we truly show our worship and honour him. We don’t do it for reward, we do it because He is worthy.

Looking at our passage in revelation we are again encouraged to worship with everything. We see a beautiful picture of being filled with the spirit. We see the Throne of God surrounded by worship, “Holy holy holy is the Lord God Almighty who was, and is, and is to come” (rev 4:8). For those of us who aren’t musical this sounds like a nightmare! Singing forever does not sound like heaven! But this isn’t the point. No one knows exactly what heaven will be like, and it is not for us to worry, but what this passage does is encourages us and reveals to us a image of worship and the point again is that he is worthy of everything.

Even in the hard times, as we see in Psalm142, we must worship him Its so helpful for us to see David’s prayer in his struggles. He is honest,“I pour our my complaint before him” (Psa 142:2), David doesn’t pretend he is okay because God knows his heart. It doesn’t work in a relationship to pretend and not show our feelings. It makes us so much closer to someone when we share our troubles. No matter what season we are in we can be close to God and Worshipping him, telling him who he is is so important; “you are my refuge” David cries.

Worship isn’t about us it is about God. He is worthy of all the little things in our lives and when we are in troubled times He is still worthy of our Worship. God deserves nothing less than our everything.

If you’d like to take your own picture to potentially be featured on the blog, then get your Soul Survivor Bible in One Year, and take a picture of yourself – and your Bible – at some interesting or colourful location. Then email it to us at editor@soulsurvivor.com.

The pictures will need to be a pretty good resolution (we use 640px by 360 px so at least as big as that), landscape photos work best and if you include the day of the reading in the picture then make sure you send it to us a good few days before that reading, so we have time to include it in that day’s post! We’ll credit all photographers!
