What is The Bible in One Year?

As you’d expect from the name, this site is all about reading the Bible in One Year, and at Soul Survivor we’re encouraging thousands of young (and older) people to get into God’s word and journey through this ancient book together.
If you don’t know, Soul Survivor is a organisation that runs events and creates all sorts of resources to help people get to know Jesus better. You can find out all about us and our events at http://www.soulsurvivor.com/uk.
One of the resources we’ve released is a Bible In One Year. This Bible has 365 daily readings, beginning on 1st September. You can grab a copy at any decent Christian Book Store or online at places like Amazon. And because we know that committing to 365 readings in one year is a bit of a tough task, we set up this little blog. Every day we post up some thoughts on the passages we’re reading and encourage others to share their comments and thoughts. We want to help you get into God’s word and discover more of his love for you and his world as you read it!
If you haven’t got a copy of the Soul Survivor Bible in One Year, don’t panic! You can still do the readings everyday. We post up our blog entries at 1:00am (BST) and list today’s readings, so you should be able to still get involved and join the discussions!
We hope you have fun reading through the Bible with us. So far over 10,000 people have got copies of the Bible, so it’s exciting to know you’re not alone in reading through God’s word!

I’m trying to buy a copy of the book – but was wondering whether the different covers imply different content.. Is there a most up to date version or are they all the same stuff inside, just different covers? I want to buy the one that will relate to the blogs that have started today..

I am really excited to be starting this!! I been a Christian all my life but I never read the whole thing, just small snippets, and even then I have never felt I really have ever really got into it or understood it, you know? I never been eager to read it but I cannot wait for it to start!! I didn’t manage to get a bible in a year but I was wondering if I could still follow it with my NIV bible as all the verses seem to be up on the internet??

Hi, I bought the book before it all started …and well didn’t get too far; uni got in the way, and then I felt too far behind.
I will be starting this book (again) this september was hoping that this blog would still be up and running over the next year. Obviously there is no need for your daily postings, as you’ve done them all this year; I would just hate to see all this work and help disappear when this year is over.
In short: Don’t delete the blog at the end of the year!!

Really CANNOT wait to start doing this… our church are doing it as well and we’re doing it as a family… really looking forward to being able to collectivally discuss the stuff that comes up with so many other people… and get so many different opinions – really looking forward to learning more about God. In honest truth, this is the most exited I’ve been about reading the whole bible. I usually get through to Chronicles and then just miss too much… this way will be so much more structured and better organised… and the fact that we can talk about it with others is such a good thing – and you haven’t got to worry about remembering to ask someone in the future… always helpful – Cannot wait for day 1 to begin and I can start

Is it me or if you look though it is easier to understand well for me it thank you Mike and Andy for helping us learn the work of god together. so many people on the same day will be reading the same part at the same time i think it is amazing.

Hey Stephanie, from what I know they are identical yes! I decided to get a paperback as I don’t intend on taking it everywhere! But I’m pretty sure the hardback is more feminine in it’s design! Hope that helps

We took 15 youth to Soul Survivor A – wow what a week! We decided immidiately that our youth needed the Soul Survivor:Bible in one year. When we got back to our church we told our congregation all about it. There are now 40 members of our church taking part in the Bible in one year as part of a family! AMEN!!!!

I’m really looking forward to starting this epic Bible reading session. I want to encourage the young people from a Youth Group that I help out at to get reading and stick with it. To be honest, I’d like to encourage all the people that signed up to this from the Isle of Wight. I really want to see/hear them all getting engaged and excited, and also staying on track. I know we will all have tough times (myself included), but I just want to really encourage everyone to stick at it and keep checking the blog (I assume that will be here on this web page) and I have no idea how to keep up the momentum and all that. If you see what I mean.

It’s all the idea of our Young People who came back from Soul Survivor fizzing about it and are organising it themselves.

I arrived home yesterday from Momentum. What an amazing time spent with great friends in the name of Jesus. I bought the Bible in one year and I am ready to start reading next week. It’s gonna be such a challenge to find time to fit it into every day living but it will be so worth it! It’s going to be so encouraging to read all your thoughts on the daily readings. It’s such a good idea to continue the Soul Survivor/Momentum experience throughout the year. Well done to Mike and Andy and all the team once again for such a great week. God showed up in all His glory which really made the camping and soggy tents worth it! Here’s to a great year together…
This has been so timely! I’m doing a part-time course with my church this year, and part of that is reading the bible in a year and I was dreading it from my previous failed attempt experiences….so already encouraged and nervously looking forward to it now…!

Just been to Momentum and I am so excited about the Bible in a year! I actually bought a load not only for the youth in our church, but I am going to encourage that people read it with their family also, so that ALL age groups are doing this together!
My copy came in the post this morning. I can’t wait to get started, I only heard about The Bible in One Year a few days ago when I was looking at the Soul Survivor website. Good thing I came across it really as I do need to have more of God’s word in my heart, and I need to get to know Jesus better.

A lot of our guys are up for it, but wont to use their standard bibles that they journal already in and hence add notes as they go. Will we be able to get the reading plan and join in that way? Surely it’s not only for those who have brought the SS version…

You have no idea how excited about the Bible in One Year I am! I’ve tried reading the bible many times before I have given up at the end of Exodus. From flicking through my new layout Bible, I found stories and characters I didn’t know existed! So this site is going on my favourites and I will log on every day and I will get to the end of August 2011 and will be saying YES….I did it!!!! Also….yey for Week C 2010! It was awesome!! Momentum next year is a defo I feel!!
was at soul survivior week b and was just blown away by the power of god woring through everyone there. i bought the bible in a year cause i have recently become the mentor for one the older guys in my youth group so it will really help me nurture this guy and really help him inderstand the bible exactly how god wants him to. was so good hangin out and worshipping with somany young people at soul. bring it on for next year.

I have only been a christian for around 15 weeks and was really quite nervous and didn’t quite know what to expect from momentum, all i can say is that my faith is a lot stronger than it was before momentum, God has challenged issues i have been going through a great deal through the whole of momentum and i can honestly say i am spiritually exhausted by the experience and my faith has never been stronger, everything i saw proved God’s love for each and every one of us and i am so glad i am along for the ride in this walk with God,
thank you Lord that you have a place for each and everyone of us in your hand, that no issue, problem or situation is too great for you, that you above all others are there every minute of every day and i thank you for what you have done for me and everyone around me, you are above all others, amazing, unshakable, never ending, constant. because of you my life has been saved, from being lost to feeling like i am found, a new person, walking alongside you each and everyday, i ask you to wash me over with your holy spirit, protect me from temptations from satan and be the ever lasting influence of every decision i make throughout my life, thank you lord jesus, amen.

Our church kindly agreed to us purchasing this for our youth group. I can’t wait for us all to start, it’s an answer to prayer as I’ve been wanting them all to gain a greater love of God’s word and own it for themselves so this is perfect – thank you Andy and Mike for the inspiration we needed.

I bought 1 copy of ‘Bible In A Year’ so we can do it as a youth group over facebook. If you want to join our FB group ‘Smethwick ELim Pentecostal Church’ and join us in reading then you are welcome. I have published the reading plan on there.

The daily readings are going to be at the start of each day’s blog post, so just use your normal bible and check the blog. Our youth all have a SS Bible, but some of the adults in our church are reading along with us just using the blog – you don’t have to be sad… you can still do it for free
Do what I’m doing then, just check the website each morning to see which passages are being read, and join in with your existing bible
There are other places you can buy online and it should arrive before 1st September… worth a try and if it doesnt arrive before you will only miss a couple of days…
The references will be up and discussed though.. So providing you have a Bible lying around somewhere you can still be involved.

Got back from Soul Survivor Week C and I’m missing it already
but i bought the Bible in One Year as a remembrance and also to help me understand God’s Word and to increase my faith.. I’ve always tried to attempt different Bible in a year but i always end up being too lazy, but with the encouragement of many others and help with things i dont understand, i know i can do it now

it sounds like your friend got a copy with a mistake in the printing!! We’re really sorry – it should definitely begin on the 1st September not the 21st.
I know this isn’t a great solution, but the Soul Survivor office is closed at the moment so there isn’t anyone around who can send her an updated copy – SO the only solution i can think of for now is if she buys another copy on Amazon or somewhere similar (which is actually cheaper than what we were selling them for!) and then posts us back the copy that isn’t right – we’ll refund her original payment for it and might also be able to give her something for the postage..

But then I thought i would wait for the end of the week because we get given gifts from our church most years so I wouldn’t get it yet. The morning after I thought this, we each got given the bible in one year!

I was at Week A and C of Soul Survivor 2010! I heard about the Bible in one year at Week A but didn’t take enough money for one so I got mine at Week C!!! (Which by the way was FANTASTIC!) Can’t wait to start reading! Roll on September!
I got mine while a week c and after showing to my parents they have brought four more copies and we are going to do it as a family. We are all looking forward to it.
I just went to Soul Survivor C- it was AMAZING! Can’t wait till September- I have never understood bits of the bible, so this is my chance to learn all about it!!!
Im so excited. I have always wanted something like this to be able to follow the bible. And what better way to do it than to do it with every one. I love this idea of asking questions too.
Wow! I think this is a really GREAT idea and I think it will help a lot of people, including myself, to understand the mighty God and get closer to him! I tried to read the whole thing at once but, I’m still in Genesis, so, this time I’ll be able to do it! (hopefully) Good Luck everyone!

I brought a friend from Orchestra along to Soul Survivor Week C this year and we both bought the Bible in a Year and are eager to start! We going to keep encouraging each other and discussiung what we’ve read and thought during the break between rehearsals each friday evening and saturday morning.

Reading all of the bible in a year is impossible on your own so to have this site where you can speak to others (who are also reading numbers at the same time!) is an awesome way to help us all persevere and – more to the point – get closer to God

I’e got my Bible and am ready to go…
sooo didnt wanna leave ss yesterday, was sooo good. the thing i love about this idea is that every year i leave ss and long to be back, but with this not only do you get to read the entirity of God’s word, but you get to continue a little bit of the ss experience for a whole year. Absolute WIN.

BAM BAM!! this is exactly what i was thinking!! its an awesome idea and i think it will be a key tool to help all of us draw closer to god!
We have bought 30 copies for all our young people and young adults. We’re going to be reading it together and basing our Sunday morning teaching on the passages we’ve read the week before… SO excited to get started!!

i had a great time at week B wish i could have stayed for week C aswell are youth worker got use all a copy and i cant what to get stuke in i am miss everyone already .i hope by doing this it will keep me close to him and keep on his path. soul survivor has changed my life around and hopefull by reading the bible God will contiue to work in me

Hiya! I went to SOul Survivor week B & our youth leaders picked us up copies! I cannot wait to start, i tried to read the whole new tastament & failed, but im hoping i’ll have better luck with the help of a group

Can’t wait to start in September and begin discovering God with so many of my brothers and sister together. It’s an inspiring thought that tousands of people will be journeying in God’s Word alongside each other!
… just got back from week b. WOW!! What an amazing time our group had. Thanks EVERYONE. We’ve got 20 of the ‘Bible in a year’ and are going to link our Sunday morning Elevate programme with this website blog to encourage our guys to keep going.

Tom – in answer to your question, yes! We are hosting the site through wordpress.. We looked at doing it through our own website but WordPress gives us a lot more options for people to interact and post comments so we thought it would be much simpler to use that rather than try and create our own not-quite-so-good version!
A few people have asked if we’ll be publishing info about the daily passages so they can follow in their own Bible (rather than buy a copy of the official ‘Bible in One Year’..
Each day when people post up commentaries they’ll also be including the references for the passages so you should be able to follow along that way – using your own Bible.

Sidelong question, but are you guys hosting this site through wordpress? I love the idea of having a blogging community around a Bible reading plan, such a great way to encourage creativity and meditation…
Haven’t bought the Bible yet as i have no money, but believe me, i’ve thought about it. Will you post the passages up so we can follow along even if we’re too skint to buy the Soul Survivor book?
I’ve tried a few times – stating in January and given up by Feb so am excited at a sept start – intend to get the whole family at it
i’m loving it 30 people from our church’s youth are doing it! amazing way to grow in faith, brilliant!
I really think this will help me in reading my bible, i am determined to be doing it for the whole year! It’s really good to know there is going to be loads of people doing the same thing & having a place to diguss it will really help me. x

I’m not going to Soul Survivor but I picked up a ‘Bible in One Year’ at New Wine. I can’t wait to get going and I’m really excited to have this place to discuss passages. I hope that loads of people will get involved and meet with God through this life changing book!
This sounds awesome! I just started trying to read the whole bible after going to another Christian camp DCYC and am only near the beginning. Some things are starting to get tricky to understand so this sounds like a great idea. Will definitely be buying this at Soul.
